Alumni
Jannelle Togo
Janelle started her dance journey at a young age, from dance recitals at church and school to ballet classes with Miss Vivie. In 2019, she joined Vivie’s Dance and Theater Academy, where she was introduced to various dance styles from contemporary to hip-hop. Under the mentorship of her instructors at the academy, Janelle evolved from the shy dancer who always stayed at the back to the dancer who owned her space and fully expressed herself.
She auditioned for the Junior Dance Company in 2022 and earned her place as a second-generation JDC member. As part of JDC, Janelle found a community of like-minded artists dedicated to improving their skills as dancers and using their craft to inspire those around them. She got the opportunity to be part of various performances and worked with her teammates to put up the Junior Dance Company’s very first production “Sheroes With No Cape.”
Janelle’s time in VDTA provided her with more than just dance training; she developed her leadership and collaboration skills, grew in confidence and discipline, and learned to apply these skills outside of dance to become the Head Girl of her high school.
As Janelle pursues her college career in the US, she carries with her the invaluable lessons and experiences gained from her time at Vivie’s Dance and Theater Academy. More than just a training ground, VDTA has become her second family—a tight-knit community of fellow dancers, mentors, and friends who support and inspire her every step of the way.
